Spanish Libertarians in support of Alexei Navalny
  • Spain’s Libertarian Party adheres to the Russian Libertarian Party’s position on the matter
  • The classical liberal leader has been detained and subjected to a farce trial after surviving Novichok poisoning

Spain’s Libertarian Party (P-LIB) firmly condemns the Russian regime for the arrest and the summary judgment of classical liberal opposition leader Alexei Navalny. P-LIB shares the position expressed by the Libertarian Party of Russia and demands this political prisoner’s immediate release, as well as that of all other Russian political prisoners and an investigation of Navalny’s poisoning, which severely threatend his life.

Navalny was arrested on Sunday upon his arrival to Moscow, in spite of the fact that he was returning to attend the trial scheduled for January 29th. The political prisoner has been isolated and deprived of lawyer assistance. A special courtroom has been made ready for him at the police station where he was detained, and yesterday he was taken to a «trial» after allowinghis lawyers to review the dossier for just twenty minutes. The judge’s vallidity was resolved by the same judge, while the right to the natural predetermined judge has been violated. The court proceedings were not open to the public. This summary judgement is yet another act of despotism by the regime commanded by Vladimir Putin. Its shows just how deep Human and civil rights, public freedom and the administration of Justice have fallen in Russia.

Spain’s Libertarian Party joins its voice to all those of Russian citizens, Human Rights organizations and the international community demanding Navalny’s release and the start of reform and transition process in Russia. We libertarians do know  that Putin’s regime is not only lethal to liberty in Russa. It also, permanently interferes in other countries to destabilize them by providing support for all kinds of populist groups which aim at substituting political governance based upon the citizenry’s consent by authoritarian or totalitarian government of any ideological type. Libertarians around the world must denounce this permanent interference and simultaneously support, as much as possible, the Libertarian Party of Russia and all other political parties which favour freedom in Russia.

Juan Pina, Secretary for International Relations of Spain’s Libertarian Party, today stated that «we hold Putin responsible for anything that may again happen to Alexei Navalny, a hero for all people who love liberty».
